Frequently Asked Questions

All sessions are online, by secure video. I don't offer in-person appointments — which means I can work with adults anywhere in Ontario.

Yes — I hold a limited number of sliding-scale spots for students. If you're currently studying and the standard fee of $165 is a barrier, please say so when you get in touch. It won't affect how I respond to you, and I would rather have that conversation than have you not reach out at all.

Individual psychotherapy sessions are $165 for 50 minutes. Payment is due on the day of the session, and I issue a receipt you can submit to your insurance provider. The initial 20-minute consultation is free. A limited number of sliding-scale spots are available for students.

No. Psychotherapy provided by a Registered Psychotherapist in private practice is not covered by OHIP. It is, however, covered by many extended health benefit plans — check whether yours includes a "Registered Psychotherapist" specifically. I provide receipts for every session so you can claim.

No. You can contact me directly and book a free consultation — no referral is needed. Some insurance plans ask for a doctor's note before they will reimburse, so it's worth checking your plan, but that is between you and your insurer rather than something I require.

Mostly talking, at whatever pace suits you. We'll cover what brought you here, a little of your history, what you've already tried, and what you'd like to be different. You don't need to arrive with a prepared explanation of your life, and you won't be asked to share more than you're ready to. By the end we'll have a rough sense of what working together might look like.

Yes. What you share in session is confidential and your records are kept securely in line with Ontario's health privacy legislation. There are a small number of legal exceptions I am required to act on: if there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, if a child is at risk of harm, if there is a report of sexual abuse by a regulated health professional, or if records are ordered by a court. I'll go through all of this with you at the start so there are no surprises.

Many extended health plans cover psychotherapy, but not all of them do. The important detail: check that your plan covers services provided by a "Registered Psychotherapist" specifically — that is the exact wording most Ontario insurers use, and a plan that covers a psychologist or social worker doesn't always cover an RP. I issue receipts after every session that you can submit to your provider. Psychotherapy is not covered by OHIP.

Email me at solpsycenter@gmail.com and tell me a little about what's going on and what you're looking for support with. You don't need to write much — a few sentences is plenty, and you don't have to have it figured out. I'll reply within 24 hours with a few times that work. The consultation is 20 minutes, free, and there's no obligation to book a session afterward.
